Great Britain are expecting to equal their best ever Winter Olympic medal haul of four in 1924, and hoping to set a new mark, in Vancouver over the next two weeks. Out of a squad of 52 athletes, here are Team GB's best bets for places on the podium:
Men's Curling: Skip David Murdoch and his team finished fourth in Turin four years ago. His men go in to Vancouver as World Champions and are currently ranked second in the world, behind Canada.
When to watch: The competition begins on 16 February, with group games and semi-finals before medal matches on Saturday, 27 February.
Women's two-man bobsleigh: Nicola Minichiello and Gillian Cooke carry Britain's hopes having won the world title last year. Cooke only started bobsleigh in August 2008 after answering a plea on Facebook for athletes to try out the sport.
When to watch: First two runs on 23 February, qualifying for the final two the following day.
Skeleton: Shelley Rudman - Great Britain's lone medallist in Turin, with a silver - and her fiancée Kristan Bromley - world and European champion and World Cup winner in 2008 - head Team GB's challenge in a sport that has unflatteringly been described as riding a tea tray down a bobsleigh run.
When to watch: Both have their first two runs are 18 February, qualifying for the final two the following day.
Figure Skating: Twenty-five years after Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean won gold in Sarajevo, Great Britain have a new duo with an outside chance of a medal in John and Sinead Kerr.
When to watch: The competition comprises three sections - the compulsory on 19 February, the original two days later and the free dance, when medals will be decided, on Monday 22 February.
Skiing and Snowboarding: British number one Chemmy Alcott will take part in five Alpine skiing events at her third Olympic Games, with the downhill and super combined her best chances for a medal. Zoe Gillings, from the Isle of Man, is at her second Games, having come 15th in snowboard cross when the event - which pits four snowboarders head-to-head in each race - made its Olympic debut.
When to watch: Alcott competes in the super-combined (14 Feb), downhill (17 Feb), super-G (20 Feb), giant slalom (24 Feb) and slalom (26 Feb). Gillings has both qualifiers and a medal race on 16 February.
Short Track Speed Skating: Jon Eley and Elise Christie both won European Championship silver medals in Germany last month and have outside chances of taking a spot on Olympic podiums. Scot Christie, just 19, is rated a "technically fabulous skater" and already has a world relay gold from 2008.
When to watch: Eley races in the 500m (24 and 26 Feb) and the relay (17 and 26 Feb). Christie will be busy in the 500m (13 and 17 Feb), 1500m (20 Feb) and 1000m (24 and 26 Feb).
